Right Of Way Tree Trimmer

CORE DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THIS CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is for a Tree Trimmer position is to assist the Trimming Crew in maintaining the Cooperative Electric Lines and Facilities Right-of-Way free and clear of trees.  Using sophisticated climbing and rigging techniques, cut away dead or excess branches from trees to maintain right-of-way for roads, or utilities, or to improve the right of way.  Making Decisions and Solving Problems – analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.  Cut away dead and excess branches from trees, or clear branches around power lines, using climbing equipment or buckets of extended truck booms, or chainsaws, hooks, handsaws, shears, and clippers.

PREREQUISITES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent: Must have basic knowledge of hand tools.  Must be a principled person with good personal habits as you will be a representative of this company to the general public.    Preferred qualifications include good communication skills and basic electrical training.  Operate boom trucks, loaders, stump chippers, brush chippers, tractors, power saws, trucks, sprayers, and other equipment and tools.  Provide references for a minimum 3 years as a tree trimmer with bucket experience, and equipment experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with a Crew as a general helper on the Ground.
  • Performs ROW spraying as directed while on the Job.
  • Works out of Bucket Truck taking down trees with chain saw.
  • Climb trees, using climbing hooks and belts.
  • Operate shredding and chipping equipment.
  • Operation of Tractor with bush-hog and Side Arm Tractor.
  • Cut trees and brush with an axe and brush hook.
  • Work outside in all weather conditions.
  • After hours and on trouble calls required after 6 months.
  • And other operational duties that may be needed that are not outlined here.
  • Must have valid commercial CDL driving (A or B) license.

The fundamental reason this classification exists is for a position Right of Way Trimming Crew Member is to assist the Right of Way Crew in maintaining the Cooperative Electric Lines and Facilities Right-of-Way free and clear of trees.

PREREQUISITES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent: Must have basic knowledge of hand tools. Must be a principled person with good personal habits as you will be a representative of this company to the general public.  Must obtain a valid commercial CDL Driving License within 6 months of hire date.  Preferred qualifications include good communications skills and electrical training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with a Crew as a general helper on the Ground.
  • Perform ROW spraying as directed while on the Job.
  • Operate chain saw and clear Right-of-Way.
  • Cut trees and brush with axe and brush hook.
  • Operate brush chipper-grinder in a clean-up process.
  • Operate Tractor with bush hog and Side Arm tractor.
  • Wiling to learn to work out of a bucket truck taking down trees with chain saw.
  • After hours and on trouble calls required after 6 months.
  • Work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Other operational duties that may be needed that are not outlined.

Many families, businesses and individuals are struggling during this unprecedented time. EMCs throughout the state including Grady EMC adjusted their policies and suspended disconnects for non-payment nearly five months ago in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

As the pandemic stretches on with no end in sight, Grady EMC has to begin resuming disconnects and associated fees. We are asking our members to proactively contact Grady EMC to discuss options. Your Grady EMC is committed to working one-on-one with members who are affected to determine special payment arrangements where possible.

Walter Harrison Scholarship

Grady EMC was formed by the local community, for the purpose of helping to improve life in South Georgia by bringing power into our rural communities.  Over 75 years later, we continue to look for ways to invest in the future of our communities.

We are proud to partner with Georgia EMC in offering the prestigious Walter Harrison Scholarship.  Created in 1985, this $1,000 scholarship honors the late Walter Harrison, a rural electrification pioneer and electric cooperative leader.  The scholarship is available to any college level student, regardless of age, and is awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance.  Grade point average, SAT scores, academic standing, scholastic honors and financial need are all considered when determining eligibility.

Grady EMC reviews applicants from our local community and then forwards our finalists to Georgia EMC.  Georgia EMC’s scholarship committee judges applications from across the state and selects the final winner.

Since 1985, Georgia’s electric cooperatives have awarded $162,500 to 173 students via the Walter Harrison Scholarship program.

Washington Youth Tour

The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour has brought high school students to Washington, D.C. every June since the late 1950s.  Students apply and are selected for this program by their local electric cooperative. We believe that students should see their nation’s capital up close, learn about the political process and interact with their elected officials.

The featured speakers during Youth Day provide insight to the important roles electric cooperatives play in their community. Students gain a personal understanding of American history and their role as a citizen by meeting their Representative and Senators.  Nearly 50,000 students from rural areas and small towns across America have participated in this program. Grady EMC has participated in this program for more than a quarter of a century.
